Proud To Be a WLRA Member: HQ Southern BBQ
On a busy corner in Evansville just off I-25 to the east of Casper sits Wyoming’s “HQ Southern BBQ.” Nestled inside a converted gas station, HQ BBQ is a true hot spot for the barbecue lover and owner Doug Nicol is very proud of his product.
“We’re a Memphis-style Rib and Whisky joint,” Nicol says. “We have over 11 items on our menu that are hickory smoked each and every day, including our Ribs and Brisket as well as the green peppers and onions that we serve with our smoked sausage.”
Nicol, a longtime veteran of the Wyoming restaurant industry, knows that providing delicious food is about the care that goes into every ingredient. “It’s the stuff we make fresh, in-house that sets us apart from our competitors – whether it’s our from-scratch dressings and sauces to our cornbread, our goal is a consistent and delicious menu available at a value.”
Every bit as good as their menu, however, is their staff. “Like any business, we’re only as good as our employees,” Nicol says. “I am blessed to have added people who take direction and believe in me and my dream.”
But it isn’t only great food served up by caring attentive staff that makes the difference for HQ BBQ; the Wyoming Lodging and Restaurant Association also is crucial to Nicol’s success.
“I joined the WLRA to gain access to inside-the-industry information to help me provide the right data when I need it,” Nicol explains. “I also needed an ally who was neutral and statewide.”
“What I value most about being a member in the WLRA is that they provide me with the information and leave the rest to me. I love knowing that if I have any questions, all I have to do is call Devin or Chris, people I know by name. That’s what I love about living and working in Wyoming.”
