CJ Box speaks to the attendees at the Fall Summit
Fall Hospitality and Tourism Summit Visits Saratoga!
Nearly 100 hospitality and tourism leaders from across Wyoming attended the 2017 Fall Hospitality and Tourism Summit in beautiful Saratoga, Wyoming last month. The weather was perfect and the content was extremely valuable and varied.
The annual summit kicked off on Tuesday, October 10 with Chuck and Lori Box warmly welcoming members of the Wyoming Lodging and Restaurant Association, Wyoming Travel Industry Coalition and Wyoming Tourism Boards into their home for a pre-conference reception.
Productive meetings with all boards kicked off Wednesday morning. Lodging Tax Board leaders from around Wyoming held a best practices roundtable and the UW Tourism Degree Advisory Board held a work session that focused on feedback from the industry related to the developing degree program. Our host property, the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort held a wonderful opening reception for the conference to close out Wednesday evening with Chris Duke and The Pocket Change performing. A very special thanks to the Carbon County Visitors Council, Casper Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Albany County Tourism Board and Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism Board as well as Madden Media for sponsoring the opening reception-it was a fantastic evening.
Thursday morning began with Wyoming Office of Tourism Executive Director Diane Shober recapping 2017 with highlights including “The Call of the WY,” “The Great Solar Eclipse” and rapidly evolving key performance indicators from the past 10 months. Attendees were able to visit with the Wyoming Office of Tourism for break out sessions focused on co-op opportunities, local outreach strategies and regional discussions. Liz Brimmer from Brimmer Communications shared her years of expertise in messaging and engaging locally with elected officials and WLRA & WTIC Executive Director Chris Brown moderated a panel with the House Revenue Committee Chairman Mike Madden along with Revenue Committee member Representative Jerry Paxton. The panel discussion focused on the proposed 1% Leisure and Hospitality Tax that the Joint revenue Committee is considering.
Thursday evening was capped off with a very special treat. New York Times best selling author C.J. Box spoke to our audience thrilling those in attendance with a rare behind the scenes look into his writing and the characters that so many across the world love. His storytelling was an incredible close to a conference packed with valuable takeaways.
